Our USA Adventure – 4 weeks in Elephant Butte, NM

Yes, we have now been 4 weeks in Elephant Butte and while this is a quite remote spot of New Mexico, we have seen and experienced much; we hope our pictures reflect this!  During the night times, we have spotted the space station soaring above – it is unmistakable in the skies and truly a joy to see; knowing our astronaughts are up there is awesome!  The sunsets here are beautiful, however, one can not stay out long due to the “man eating” gnats!  Oh yes they are, and we have proof but you would not want to see those pics 🙁 . It is said, however, that the gnats are only here for a brief window of time – it just happens to be the same time of the year we decided to come here.

We enjoyed a British Auto Rally right across from our park; it was such fun to see (but not touch!) the various cars.  Early morning golf at Sierra del Rio was awesome!  We played 9 holes as there was work being done on the back 9.  Such fun we had; yep, lost a couple of balls, but well worth the play. Elephant Butte Dam was great to see and it’s history is so interesting. Elephant Butte RV Resort is really a wonderful property.  Large spaces, friendly staff, nice pool area, exercise room, laundry ….. well, it is a wonderful spot.  And…oh yes, we know each aisle of Wallmart well!

We have included pictures of our family back home because we just can’t help ourselves!  Miss Lenna Rae, her daddy Nathan (our eldest Grandson), and her Grandpa Michael (our boy), and fun with Grandma “Bamma” Debbie. Their adventures back home are, of course, a part of our adventure as well!

We have met the Burnett’s, Jim and Gayla, and their Gus, and they are just fun to be around!  What have had so much fun with them and hope our adventures with them will continue!  We all share so much in common including that Gary and Jim both have a “man-crush” on Hugh Jackman😉.  Well, so do Gayla and I!!!!  As a matter of fact, who doesn’t? We’ve spent some great time talking, laughing, and sharing; we love their company.  Next week (on Saturday) we depart for our continued adventure, but we 4 will be staying in touch.

Next: Back to Carlsbad Caverns. But we just learned that we will be “caravaning” with Jim & Gayla to Roswell before dropping down to visit the Caverns again… that is, if we don’t get “beamed up” first! Stay tuned!!!

Meet the Burkes...

We are “The Burkes”, Pat and Gary, and this is our Travel Blog where we hope to share in pictures and words the highlights of our journeys. We are semi-retired, meaning we both work remotely with phones and computers as we travel around in our 27′ Airstream International, which we have named “Close2You II”. Those who know us may remember our sailboat, a 26′ MacGregor named “Close To You”, and therefore…Read More
